Ok back packing in the Canadian Rockies may sound like a big adventure and it is, but it should be known I have lived here all my life. Mountains are not new to me, even when I was 11. Oh yea, I was 11 when we did this trip. It starts just out of town at the Norquay ski hill. There are parks trails that lead from here and head to Lake Louise via the backcountry.

There are many things to consider when going on one of these trips. The usual food and shelter are always a concern because we have to stay at parks Canada campsites and feed ourselves. This is one of the first real backpacking trips my sister ( Aven, 13 at the time) and I have been on. Camping is not new carrying stuff is. We mostly paddle canoes and camp, which is quite a bit different. You bring a lot more stuff canoeing.

Maps take some getting used to also. While they are colourful and all, they don't tell you much unless you can read them correctly. I am pretty sure that this is part of the exercise Dad had planned for us. Map work, that is. I have to say it is cool once you can read them and find your way through the wilderness.

I am looking forward to this summer as we may get to do another trip. Longer and perhaps more complicated. The great thing is living in a national park there are so many great trips just outside our doorstep. So stick around and subscribe to my blog, I will post other great trips I have been on.
